kindly ones

Things cruising along smoothly, Kim and went on a couple of good runs this weekend and worked out at the gym (I am at the gym now writing this). Having fun in the various categories.

1. living in Alaska
2. going on hikes
3. fishing
4. Creating art in Photoshop and my sketch book.
5. listening to good music
6. hosting radio shows at KMXT
7. going on runs and working out
8. and reading (my favorite)

The new book I am reading is “The Kindly Ones.” Written in French by an American. It won both the top French awards the Goncourt and the Académie Française. It is the story of the Second World War, told through the eyes of a Nazi SS officer. The book itself is a staggering 900 plus pages, but for some reason most of the books I have been reading lately have been breaking the 600 page barrier. What is amazing about this book, besides the fact that it is written by and American in French, but the fact that it won some much esteemed awards… now thinking of how many books about world war two have been written and now factor in the hatred of the French towards the Germans… did I tell you that the book also one Top German awards? It is a good book which drags on a bit, but the reader is rewarded by wading through the quagmire. It reminds me a bit of Brett Easton Ellis for some odd reason that I can not explain.

books

This book is pretty fun. A bunch of hippy communes from California decide to move to Alaska and live off the land... it is a sort of "life style" that they strive for and in doing so they mix with locals who are real-life homesteaders.

running with cameras

Kim and I went out for a couple of runs this weekend, it was beautiful. After a long winter it is good to have the sun back.

doesn't get much better than this when it comes to running.

this lake was all snow and ice two weeks ago.

Having fish in chips at the chowder house after our little run. Chris went here everyday when he came up to Kodiak.

books read

Here is a cool book that I am reading right now. The last two weeks I read a few other books but I will not waste your time with those, instead I will recommend this on a level of sorts as “Guns, Germs, Steele” sort of reading, check it out.
